responsible for providing postal services in India. The IPS operates under the
Department of Posts, which is a part of the Ministry of Communications and

The
training academy for the IPS is the Postal Staff College India (PSCI), located
in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The PSCI is responsible for the training of IPS
officers and other officials of the Department of Posts.
The
training structure for IPS officers includes a comprehensive training program
that spans over two years. The training is divided into three parts:
Foundation
Course: This is a three-month-long course that introduces the trainees to the
basics of postal services, including the history, policies, and legal
framework. It also includes courses on administration, public policy, and
communication skills.
Professional
Course: The Professional Course is the main training program for IPS officers,
which is conducted over a period of 18 months. The course is divided into three
parts:
Phase
I (six months): This phase includes training in various aspects of postal
services such as mail operations, mail transport, financial services, and
marketing.
Phase
II (six months): This phase includes specialized training in areas such as
human resource management, information technology, e-commerce, and
international postal services.
Phase
III (six months): This phase is dedicated to attachment training, where the
trainees are attached to various postal circles, postal divisions, and postal
offices.
On-Job
Training: After the completion of the Professional Course, IPS officers undergo
on-job training for one year, during which they work in various positions
related to postal services.
