The Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES)-

The Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES) is a central civil services group A cadre, responsible for managing the defence land and infrastructure in the country. The IDES operates under the Ministry of Defence and is responsible for managing defence land, cantonments, and other military establishments in India.
The IDES training academy is the National Institute of Defence Estates Management (NIDEM), located in New Delhi. The NIDEM is responsible for the training of IDES officers and other officials of the Department of Defence.

The training structure for IDES officers includes a comprehensive training program that spans over two years. The training is divided into three parts:

Foundation Course: This is a four-month-long course that introduces the trainees to the basics of the Indian Constitution, defence management, and governance. It also includes courses on administration, public policy, and legal framework.

Professional Course: The Professional Course is the main training program for IDES officers, which is conducted over a period of 18 months.

The course is divided into three parts:
Phase I (six months): This phase includes training in estate management, financial management, land acquisition, and legal aspects of defence estates.

Phase II (six months): This phase includes specialized training in areas such as security, environmental management, urban planning, and heritage conservation.

Phase III (six months): This phase is dedicated to attachment training, where the trainees are attached to various cantonments, military stations, and other defence establishments.
On-Job Training: After the completion of the Professional Course, IDES officers undergo on-job training for one year, during which they work in various positions related to defence estate management.
